According to TCM theory, your body has natural patterns of energy flow or Qi that circulate in channels called meridians. Higher Qi ensures smooth circulation through the body; it reduces the stagnation of Qi and blood, and keeps the body healthy. Lower Qi can cause more stagnation, which leads to symptoms of various illnesses.
When the iCheck Energy Diagnostic System introduce a tiny amount of electricity through your body, the areas with higher Qi activity will result in lower electro skin resistance; the areas with lower Qi activity will result in higher electro skin resistance. In other words, lower resistance means the reading is high; higher resistance means the reading is low.
But, how do we define the measurement points? According to the "Hung-Di-Nei-Jing" – an ancient Chinese medical text that has been treated as the fundamental doctrinal source for Chinese medicine for more than two millennia and until today, it describes: "all diseases reflect on the source point". That means we can take measurements directly from the source points of each meridian.
For example, a person with a lung problem normally shows abnormality at the source point of the lung meridian. We can obtain an average value after we complete the 24 readings of measurement. At the same time, some readings found are much higher than the average, while some are much lower than the average. We can assume that the higher readings indicate excess; the lower readings indicate deficiency. Excess and deficiency are measured against the average line. There is no absolute excess or deficiency reading.
The clinical meanings of the readings are clear and simple; each excess or deficient meridian indicates a consistency of symptoms. For example, a patient who has back and shoulder pain, and more frequent defecation, usually has a small Intestine meridian deficiency. Patients with a Kidney Meridian deficiency usually show emaciation, have hypotension (dizziness) and other symptoms, and will produce excessive fear. Kidney deficiency would result in the weakness of will, which would lead to the lack of ambition and lasting endurance. These symptoms are the basis of TCM theory.
